MONTGOMERY COUNTY
The largest county by population (almost 1 million and up 60% since 1980!) in the state of Maryland, Montgomery County borders Washington, DC to the north and west, and therefore offers a full range of amenities for the whole family!
The county is suburban, with its county seat being Rockville, a city in the middle of Montgomery County.
In a Washington Post special issue published this spring, Montgomery County was described in several ways:
* Within 25 miles in Montgomery County, you can experience the "exotic melange of Silver Spring's downtown rebirth to the barn and silo expanse of the county that opens up just north of Poolesville, a rolling landscape of family farms."
* "...the great C&O Canal's quiet history at Great Falls and the seething beauty of the Potomac River..."
* ..."great sweep of worship -- Muslim, Christian, Buddhist and more along the an architecturally dazzling stretch of New Hampshire Avenue dubbed the highway to heaven."
* Maryland's most populous and affluent jurisdiction which offers something few suburban areas can match: a diversity of place, power and people that is anything but suburban.
* Nearly 1 in 3 adults hold a graduate or professional degree and they are among the most educated in the nation.
Transportation
