About the Montgomery County, Silver Spring, and Takoma Park, Maryland Area
MONTGOMERY COUNTY
Check out this great Montgomery County resource from The Washington Post! The largest county by population (almost 1 million and up 60% since 1980!) in the state of Maryland, Montgomery County borders Washington, DC to the north and west, and therefore offers a full range of amenities for the whole family! The county is suburban, with its county seat being Rockville, a city in the middle of Montgomery County. In a Washington Post special issue published this spring, Montgomery County was described in several ways: * Within 25 miles in Montgomery County, you can experience the "exotic melange of Silver Spring's downtown rebirth to the barn and silo expanse of the county that opens up just north of Poolesville, a rolling landscape of family farms." Transportation Montgomery County has one of the best public transportation systems in the area. From the Metro, which is accessible from any location in the county, to the Ride-On Bus, to the MARC Train, which goes through Montgomery County from Frederick County, residents have quick access to Washington, D.C. and elsewhere. A Great Place to Live Homes in Montgomery County vary greatly in price as well as style to satisfy the needs of everyone, from the first-time home buyer to the luxury home. It is a place of change and growth, but a place where the old is restored as well, and the natural beauty of gardens and landscaping is valued as much as new industry and challenges of the future. Montgomery County remains a great place to raise a family!
SILVER SPRING Silver Spring was named after a mica-flecked area spring. The site of the original spring is in Acorn Park, located in the downtown area. Silver Spring is amazing and the changes taking place are impressive! In addition to the revitalization of the downtown area including new premier dining, shopping, office and residential space, Silver Spring offers something for everyone. It's close to Washington DC, it's ethnically diverse, and it goes from urban to suburban to an almost a county feel. The area is large but is made up of many neighborhoods, such as Indian Springs, Woodside, Woodmoor, Four Corners, Sligo, Forest Glen, Long Branch and Takoma Park, which is just next door. A few minutes away are Colesville, Burnt Mills, Sandy Spring, Glenmont, Layhill, Wheaton and more. Major areas of employment are in education, social services, and health, as well as scientific, management, professional, administrative, and waste management services. Silver Spring is also home to a good many religious institutions. Silver Spring remains a wonderful place to call home and raise a family! TAKOMA PARK Takoma Park, whose name means "high up near heaven,is a city in Montgomery County. It's land area is 2.1 square miles and is known to be the first planned commuter suburb in the area. Takoma Park borders Silver Spring. It is known as a liberal community with a diverse population. The city is just northeast of Washington, D.C., and so its residents have easy access to this great city.
