Montgomery County Public Schools 

According to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), it is the 15th largest and the 12th fastest growing school system in the United States. Montgomery County covers about 500 square miles and has a population of 925,000. About one in 7 residents, or 140,000 kids, attend public school here. 92% of students graduate and 81% of seniors take the SAT!

Higher Education in Maryland 

The state of Maryland boasts a wide range of higher education opportunities including 58 colleges and universities and more than 120 private career schools.  

For example, the University of Maryland System is the statewide coordination of 11 public universities including: University of Maryland College Park; University of Maryland Baltimore County; Towson University; Salisbury University and others.  

Private institutions include: Johns Hopkins University, Loyola College in Maryland, Goucher College, St. Mary’s Seminary and University, and more. Maryland also hosts the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. 

Maryland’s colleges and universities offer experiences for both traditional college students entering directly from high school and those students who are in the workforce and want to learn new skill sets. According to the Maryland Higher Education Commission, 1/3 of Maryland residents 25 and older have a bachelor’s degree or higher. This impressive figure places the state 4th highest in the United States.
